A Spartan Rebirth: Why This Year’s Michigan State Basketball Team is the Real Deal
Excitement is brewing in East Lansing as Tom Izzo’s 2024-25 Michigan State basketball team gets ready to take center stage. Following the disappointment of losing to North Carolina in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Izzo has refused to accept defeat, instead choosing to rebuild and relaunch his team into greatness.
When Hoggard, Sissoko Hall, Walker, and Montgomery, departed, many thought the team was destined to struggle. Not so, as Izzo went to work, scouring the transfer portal and emerging with some big-time talent to bolster his 2024-25 roster.
First, he pulled the trigger on Frankie Fidler, securing the scoring wing that his team desperately needed to compete. Next, he brought in 7-footer Szymon Zapala from Longwood to address the team’s glaring need for size and interior scoring.
Behind Washington, I expect monstrous upticks from Spartan players like Jaxon Kohler, Carson Cooper, Coen Carr, Xavier Booker, Jaden Akins, Tre Holliman, and Jeremy Fears Jr. These eight could all contribute to the needs of the team.
Washington is not just another pretty face either. He’s an X’s and O’s guy who knows how to maximize his players’ skills and put them in position to thrive as every spot on the court benefits based on that individual’s specific competencies.
On top of that, Michigan State has managed an impressive class with Zeke Fernandez, Jacob Grant, Trey McKenney, and C.J. Randall. But the commitment that could tip scales in favor of Tom’s new Spartan team is the commitment of number one high school basketball recruit, Marquis Palmer.
These kids grew up around Michigan State, are not about to let them slip away quietly into that good post-Izzo night
Another reason to this post-Izzo MSU. How high can this team soar?
When a team like Michigan State, on the cusp of greatness, has three men being brought and this strong MSU ‘94 recruiting class—magic happpens. One would easily predict Tom Izzos’s 2024-25 Spartan BB team to compete for a conference title.
Is Iizzo and his gang Michigan State of the year 2024 champions? With all the experts and journalists asking “what is Tom up to now?
One thing is certain, though. It is surely Tom’s year!

Michigan State was tabbed as a ‘middle of the pack’ squad heading into the season, given the roster losses, but it is perfectly ordinary for Tom to challenge for a Big Ten title as he always does.
In some ways it should make sense given who the Spartans are committed to returning next season
This has been Izzo’s greatest strength in his long tenure: finding ways to make good on his promises when the consensus thinks otherwise.
In fact, he has the greatest trait for any NCAA D1 coach: Adaptability and moxie are critical components for success particularly behind enemy lines. While it would greatly shock me to see the Spartans struggle, I also believe this team has adequate upside to advance into the Sweet 16 starting to pull off next March.
Lastly this could be the start in Tom Izzo’s run in March Madness.

Why the Excitement in This Year’s Michigan State Lineup?
Splyce of life ,
Tom Izzo has been assembling this potential NCAA D1 Winning team one transfer portal at a time…
Michigan State fans eagerly awaits another NCAA D1 BB NCAA tournament run from Tom Izzo.
It is worth noting Tre, behind the transfer of Frankie could be something of phenomenal success
By hiring recruiting magnet Washington as an assistant he could very possibly yield high-quality commits beyond top-ranked Marquis Palmer (#2 SF 24).
That is not all though
Michigan State brings the best basketball recruiting class to the system including the 2nd number one basketball recruit Marquis Palmer ,
It appears after losing Hoggard, Sissoko, Hall Walker, and Montgomery, there might not be that big of a need for too much optimism.
In a series of shrewd moves, he has completely reassembled his 2024-25 MSU team which many expect to challenge for a conference title.
In Addition to Fankie he has also made some successful strides with his Coaching.
He still didn’t stop there In coming weeks expect Microsoft state to recommit to top prospects, such as Trey McKenney, Caleb Coleman, etc., as he makes final assembly for big ten Conference run.
Along with bringing in Frankie, tre, and the number one overall basketball recruit he is well on his way to a conference title win. Maybe this could very well be the start of something special.
Michigan State has been working to form class full of big ten power tots but now that finally his MSU team has successfully been formed and they’re able to dominate right away which seems somewhat surprising based on what’s happened. Now he has done it again with Frankie.
I like how that kind of works out!
Fidler is not only expected to provide MSU fans with major scoring with his success on court. Washington could lead Jaxon Kohler to get his first first team all-Big Ten selection!
