The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros head women’s basketball coach Lane Lord announced the addition of 6-2 senior forward Brianna Sanchez to the 2024-25 roster.
Sanchez joins freshmen Gianna Angiolet, JaNai Coleman, Kayla Lorenz, Elizabeth Romer, Sophia Zufelt and transfers Madison Huhn and Chynell Mitchell to round out UTRGV’s signing class for the upcoming season.
“We’re extremely happy with this signing class,” Lord said. “We have three transfers and they’re all going to bring us experience, and we have five freshmen that we’re really excited about. We feel like we’ve filled each position. All of these newcomers are competitive and played at winning programs and are going to push to play. It’s going to make our program that much better having that kind of competition every day in practice.”

Brianna Sanchez returns to UTRGV
The daughter of Diana Garcia and Javier Sanchez will be studying English and hopes to become a teacher and coach. She chose to return to UTRGV because of the family atmosphere and the opportunity it gives her to spread knowledge of the game in the Valley.
“The coaching staff is extremely excited to have Brianna come back to the program. She knows our system, she’s from the Valley which is a plus, and she’s going to be able to provide depth at the post position. With her experience, we really expect her to contribute this season as a fifth-year player,” Lord said.
