Unrivaled Ambition: The Birth of a New Era in Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball landscape is on the cusp of a revolution, and it’s all thanks to the vision and determination of two WNBA superstars, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. Their brainchild, Unrivaled, is set to shake things up in the world of women’s professional sports when it launches in January 2025.
The future of women’s basketball is bright
At the heart of Unrivaled’s mission is a commitment to paying its players what they deserve – a minimum six-figure salary, the highest average salary in U.S. women’s professional sports. As Collier so eloquently put it, “The principle of our league is that it’s the top talent, and women need to be paid accordingly.”

The road to Unrivaled began as a response to the prioritization clause in the collective bargaining agreement, which went into full effect this spring. Collier, Stewart, and their team, including Alex Bazzell, a WNBA/NBA skills coach and Collier’s husband, have been working tirelessly to bring their vision to life.

The league has already secured agreements with 10 All-Stars, although their names will remain under wraps until this summer. What’s more, Unrivaled boasts an impressive list of investors, including U.S. women’s national team soccer champions Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Steve Nash, LPGA winner Michelle Wie West, and business mogul Gary Vaynerchuk.
A star-studded lineup of investors
John Skipper, Meadowlark Media co-founder and former ESPN president, and David Levy, Back Nine Ventures founder and former Turner president, will lead Unrivaled’s media rights and sponsorship sales.
