The wait is finally over for UNC basketball fans as the three highly-anticipated freshmen have arrived on campus. Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, and James Brown are now officially Tar Heels, joining their new teammates and coaches at the Smith Center.

As the highest-ranked member of the 2024 UNC basketball recruiting class, Ian Jackson made his presence known by posting a picture from the parking lot of the Smith Center on his Instagram Story, captioning it with a simple yet bold statement: “Here we go”.

Ian Jackson is in Chapel Hill, and he’s ready to make his mark on the team. The 6-foot-5 guard from Our Saviour Lutheran School in New York is expected to be a key player for the Tar Heels, and his arrival has generated a lot of excitement among fans.

But Jackson isn’t the only talented freshman joining the team. Drake Powell, a 6-foot-6 forward from Northwood High School in Pittsboro, is also expected to make a big impact. Powell is a McDonald’s All-American and is ranked just three spots lower than Jackson on the 247Sports 2024 Composite.

The third freshman to arrive on campus is James Brown, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound four-star big man from Link Academy in Missouri. Brown is expected to provide some much-needed depth to the Tar Heels’ frontcourt.
