The Road to Paris: USA Basketball’s Quest for Gold
The USA Basketball Committee has chosen four former NCAA athletes to represent the first-ever U.S. Olympic men’s 3x3 basketball team in the 2024 Paris Games. The four players, Canyon Barry, Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis, will be led by head coach Joe Lewandowski, who has been involved in the USA 3x3 program since 2012.

Canyon Barry, who played at Charleston and Florida, won the SEC Sixth Man of the Year as one of Florida’s leading scorers off the bench. Jimmer Fredette, who played at BYU, was the nation’s leading scorer with 28.9 points per game in his senior season. Kareem Maddox, who played at Princeton, won the 2011 Ivy League Defensive Player of the year his senior year. Dylan Travis, who played at Midland University, Iowa Central Community College, and Florida Southern, led Florida Southern to the 2015 NCAA DII men’s basketball championship.

As the Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball team returns to practice, jersey numbers have been announced for the new players. The program’s official account shared a video compilation on Twitter and Instagram of the team’s first practice with the new roster. Back at it! #GoHoos

Junior transfer Elijah Saunders will take Reece Beekman’s #2, while senior transfer Jalen Warley will continue wearing his #1, previously worn at UVA by Justin Anderson. Freshmen forward Jacob Cofie will take #5, which was worn by Kyle Guy.

The UH Rainbow Wahine Basketball Team has traveled to Japan, where they are learning how to stay healthy on and off the court. The team’s trip is part of the Hawai’i Tourism Authority’s Destination Management Action Plan, which aims to redefine tourism on Maui.
