The Road to Paris: USA Basketball Unveils Roster for 2024 Olympics

As the world gears up for the 2024 Paris Olympics, USA Basketball has finally unveiled its roster for the highly anticipated event. And while some familiar faces will be making their way to the City of Light, one notable absentee has left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads.

Caitlin Clark, the Iowa sensation who has taken the WNBA by storm, will not be joining the team in Paris. According to sources, Clark was invited to the national training camp in Cleveland but was unable to attend due to her commitments with the Indiana Fever. Despite her impressive collegiate career, which saw her finish as the NCAA’s Division I all-time scoring leader, Clark will have to wait another four years for her Olympic debut.

The USA women’s basketball team has been a dominant force in the Olympics, winning every gold medal since the 1996 Atlanta Games.

In her place, the team will be led by the experienced Diana Taurasi, who will be competing in her sixth Olympics. Taurasi will be joined by her Phoenix Mercury teammate Brittney Griner, who will be playing internationally for the first time since her release from a Russian prison in 2022. Griner has stated that she will only play abroad with USA Basketball, and her inclusion in the team is a significant boost to the squad’s chances.

Diana Taurasi will be competing in her sixth Olympics, a record for the sport of basketball.

The team will also feature Olympic veterans Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Jewell Loyd, and Chelsea Gray. Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young, who helped the U.S. win the inaugural 3x3 gold medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021, will also be making their Olympic debuts. Rounding out the team are first-time Olympians Alyssa Thomas, Sabrina Ionescu, and Kahleah Copper, who all played on the American team that won the World Cup in Australia in 2022.

The USA women’s basketball team has a rich history of success in the Olympics, and this year’s roster is no exception.

The U.S. team will train together in Phoenix in July before heading to London for an exhibition game against Germany. They will then face Japan, Belgium, and Germany in pool play at the Olympics. With a mix of experienced veterans and exciting newcomers, the USA Basketball team is poised to make a strong push for gold in Paris.
