Passing of a Basketball Matriarch

Janet Drew, the matriarch of one of college basketball’s greatest families, has passed away at the age of 80. As the mother of Grand Canyon head coach Bryce Drew, Janet was a pillar of strength for her family and a shining example of what it means to be a devoted parent and supporter.

Janet’s impact on her family and the world of college basketball cannot be overstated. Her husband, Homer, was a Hall of Fame basketball coach, and their children, Scott, Dana, and Bryce, all followed in their father’s footsteps in one way or another. Scott is the head coach of Baylor men’s basketball, Dana is the director of government relations at Grand Canyon University, and Bryce, of course, is the head coach of Grand Canyon’s men’s basketball team.

As a family, the Drews are known for their strong faith and their commitment to one another. Janet was the rock that held them all together, supporting her husband and children through the ups and downs of life. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched.

Janet’s story is one of love, dedication, and perseverance. Born and raised in Mishawaka, Indiana, Janet met her future husband, Homer, while teaching in Webster Groves, Missouri. The couple had three children together and spent their lives supporting one another through the highs and lows of Homer’s coaching career.

Janet was more than just a supportive wife and mother, however. She was a pillar of the community, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She taught elementary school, mentored student-teachers, and was a resource for coaches’ wives navigating the challenges of their husbands’ profession.

As a cancer survivor and advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Janet’s impact extended far beyond her family and community. Her strength and resilience in the face of adversity inspired countless people, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

Janet Drew may be gone, but her legacy will never be forgotten. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her impact on the world of college basketball will continue to be felt for years to come.
