Ranking the Best of UNC Basketball: My Take on the Recent Transfers
As a Tar Heel faithful, I couldn’t help but chime in when our friends over at UNC Zone asked social media to rank the four most recent prominent UNC basketball transfers. Here’s how I’d rank them, and why.
The Toughest Call Before we dive in, it’s essential to acknowledge that each of these four players is incredibly talented. However, we’re not just ranking them based on their skills; we’re considering their impact on the UNC basketball program and how well they fit with the Carolina Blue.
4. Harrison Ingram (2023-24) I’ll admit it: I struggled with this ranking. Each of these players has a special place in my heart, but we’re going strictly by production and on-court factors. Ingram’s time with UNC was short-lived, but he showed promise. Despite his limited playing time, he brought an infectious energy to the court. Ingram’s enthusiasm was a welcome addition to the team
3. Pete Nance (2022-23) Nance’s lone season with UNC was a mixed bag. While he often struggled to find consistency, he did have some impressive outings. His rebounding and defensive efforts were valuable assets, but ultimately, he didn’t quite live up to expectations. Nance’s defensive prowess was a bright spot in an inconsistent season
2. Brady Manek (2021-22) Manek’s arrival was a much-needed boost to the team. He brought a level of maturity and experience that helped stabilise the squad. His scoring and rebounding averages were respectable, and his leadership was invaluable. Manek’s veteran presence helped steady the ship
1. Cameron Johnson (2017-19) Johnson’s impact on the team was undeniable. He was an instant starter and brought a level of athleticism that elevated the entire squad. His scoring and playmaking abilities made him a fan favourite, and his leadership helped guide the team to some remarkable victories. Johnson’s athleticism and scoring prowess made him a standout player
In the end, it’s not an exact science, but this is how I’d rank these four talented players. Each brought something unique to the table, but Johnson’s overall impact and production earn him the top spot.
