A New Era for Syracuse Basketball: Alex Kline Named General Manager
The Syracuse University Men’s Basketball team has made a significant move in their efforts to compete at the highest levels, naming former New York Knicks scout Alex Kline ‘16 as their new General Manager. This strategic decision aligns with the team’s goal of being at the forefront of player evaluation, development, and retention, as well as Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities in college basketball.

According to Head Coach Adrian Autry ‘94, “bringing in Alex as our General Manager is critical” to achieving their goals. Kline’s experience as a talent evaluator with the Knicks, where he helped with the NBA Draft, trade deadlines, and free agency, will undoubtedly be an asset to the team.
“With the rapidly changing landscape that is college basketball, I felt this was the perfect time to re-join my Syracuse family,” said Kline.
Kline’s new role will involve supporting Coach Autry in managing various aspects of the men’s basketball program, including scouting and recruiting, former student-athlete engagement, NIL opportunities, transfer portal management, and institutional fundraising in collaboration with University Advancement.
Kline’s experience in the NBA Draft will be invaluable to Syracuse
Before joining the Knicks in 2020, Kline worked as a basketball operations assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans of the NBA, where he assisted with college scouting and player evaluation. He also founded The Recruit Scoop, an online site dedicated to promoting high school basketball players, which eventually affiliated with Yahoo! Sports and Rivals in 2012.

In addition to his impressive resume, Kline has also made a significant impact in his community. He created the Mary Kline Classic, a charity basketball event that raises awareness for cancer research, and has donated over $131,000 to the National Brain Tumor Society and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
