Stu Jackson Takes the Court: New NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee Member
The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee has a new member, and his name is Stu Jackson. The West Coast Conference Commissioner has been appointed to replace Renee Baumgartner, who stepped down from her role on June 30 for personal reasons. Jackson will serve out the remaining four years of Baumgartner’s original five-year term.

Jackson’s Basketball Pedigree
With over three decades of experience in the basketball world, Jackson is no stranger to the game. Before becoming the West Coast Conference Commissioner, he was the executive associate commissioner for men’s basketball in the Big East Conference. In this role, he oversaw all aspects of the sport, including scheduling, compliance, student-athlete programming, data analysis, and the conference’s postseason tournament.
Jackson’s extensive basketball background also includes a 13-year stint with the National Basketball Association (NBA). During his time with the NBA, he served as senior vice president and later as executive vice president of basketball operations. He was instrumental in implementing the NBA’s officiating play-calling analysis program, which utilized advanced technology to support officiating across the league.
A Coaching Legacy
Before joining the NBA, Jackson had a successful coaching career. He served as the president and general manager of the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies from 1994-2000. He was also the assistant coach and later head coach of the New York Knicks from 1987-91. Additionally, he held coaching positions at Providence, Washington State, and Oregon.
Jackson’s collegiate career began at Oregon before finishing at Seattle University, where he graduated in 1978. He was enshrined into the Pac-12 Conference Hall of Honor in 2017 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
