Seth Trimble’s Return: A Game-Changer for UNC Basketball
The offseason is always a whirlwind of activity in the world of college basketball, and this year is no exception. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, the news that Seth Trimble has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and will be returning to Chapel Hill for his junior year is a massive boost.
Trimble’s decision gives Hubert Davis and the coaching staff a huge amount of clarity as they navigate the roster construction for next season. The experienced guard brings exceptional athletic ability and the potential to be extremely effective on both ends of the court. His return is a massive coup for the Heels, and his presence will be crucial in the team’s pursuit of a national championship.

Trimble’s brief stint in the transfer portal was understandable, given the Heels’ backcourt situation. With RJ Davis expected to return for his fifth and final year, Trimble would likely be coming off the bench once again. However, his commitment to the program and desire to win a national championship ultimately won out.
Last season, Trimble was the top player off the bench, earning our Sixth Man of the Year award. He was the defensive catalyst, setting the tone with his energy and aggressiveness. With Davis and Elliot Cadeau in the starting lineup, Trimble provided the Heels with another steady ball-handler to step in whenever either one needed some relief.
Trimble’s stats from last season are impressive: 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.4 steals per game, while shooting 47% from the field, 41.9% from three, and 66.7% from the free throw line. While he didn’t fill up the stat sheet, he impacted the game in other ways. Offensively, Trimble did a nice job of fulfilling his role on a team with many different weapons.
One area for improvement is free throw shooting, where Trimble shot just 66.7%. However, his three-point shooting was impressive, and it’s possible he won’t be expected to shoot much more than he did last year.
Defensively, Trimble is already an elite presence, and his ability to hound and lock down opposing teams’ top scorers is invaluable. His motor never stops, and he’ll be a vital piece for next year’s Carolina team.
