Pitt Panthers Secure Rising Star Amsal Delalic
The University of Pittsburgh is making waves in the lead-up to the 2024-25 basketball season with the announcement of the signing of Amsal Delalic, an up-and-coming guard from Bosnia & Herzegovina. Delalic, ranked among the top-30 European prospects, brings with him a wealth of international experience, having played professionally in Bosnia’s Division I and the ABA League Second Division.
Exciting new talent joins the Panthers roster.
Head coach Jeff Capel expressed enthusiasm about Delalic’s addition, highlighting his impressive shooting skills and high-level competitive background. “We are excited to add Amsal to our roster,” said Capel. “He is a talented guard with an outstanding shooting stroke and feel for the game. He has played at a high level internationally and will come into our program ready to compete. We were looking to add another high-upside player with the shooting ability to stretch the floor, and Amsal fits that role.”
Last Season’s Performance
In the previous season, Delalic showcased his talent while playing for Borac Nektar. He averaged 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game across 23 matches in Bosnia Division I, demonstrating his ability to make an impact on both ends of the court. Notably, he netted over 40 percent from three-point range and excelled at the free-throw line with an 80 percent shooting rate.
Moreover, Delalic maintained solid averages in the ABA League Second Division, recording 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 12 games. His overall performance tally included 483 points and 25 double-figure scoring efforts, further showcasing his prowess and consistent scoring ability.

A Bright Future Ahead
Delalic’s journey began with Borac Nektar in the 2021-22 season, following his time with Igokea from 2020-22. His experience extends to the international stage, having played for the Bosnian national team in the 2020 U16 European Championship and the recent 2023 European World Cup qualifier. This exposure to higher levels of competition is expected to serve him well as he transitions to college basketball.
This signing marks Delalic as the fifth scholarship addition for the Panthers during the offseason, alongside notable transfers like Damian Dunn from Houston and Cameron Corhen from Florida State, as well as high-profile recruits Brandin Cummings and Amdy Ndiaye. These new additions signify the Panthers’ commitment to bolstering their lineup and competing at a higher level.
Returning Talent
While new talents are being integrated into the roster, Pitt also retains a solid core from last season. Four of the top six scorers will return, led by backcourt duo Ishmael Leggett and Jaland Lowe. Leggett had a commendable season, averaging 12.3 points per game while also leading the team in rebounding with 5.5 rpg and accumulating 41 steals, earning him the ACC Sixth Man of the Year title.
Lowe found his rhythm as the season progressed, completing the latter three months with an impressive 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game during ACC play.
Looking Ahead
With Delalic’s addition, alongside a strong returning cast, the Pitt Panthers are poised for an exciting season ahead. The combination of fresh talent and experienced players is sure to create a dynamic team ready to take on challenges in the competitive landscape of college basketball.
