A New Era for Boston University Women’s Basketball
The Boston University women’s basketball program has made a significant addition to its coaching staff, naming Erica Balman as the new Director of Basketball Operations. This move comes ahead of the 2024-25 season, and Head Coach Melissa Graves is thrilled to welcome Balman to the team.
“I am thrilled to welcome Erica to the BU family,” remarked Graves. “Erica’s experience and proven success will be a tremendous addition to our staff.”
Welcome to the Terrier family, Erica!
Balman brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as the lead assistant coach at Houghton University in New York for four seasons. During her time at Houghton, the team achieved remarkable success, including a NCCAA National Championship appearance in 2022-23 and a record-breaking 23 wins in the 2023-24 season.
“I am deeply privileged and grateful to become a part of the Terrier community at Boston University,” said Balman. “From the instant I arrived on campus, I was struck by the familial atmosphere.”
Before her coaching career, Balman played professional basketball with DJK Bamberg in Germany and was a four-year letterwinner at Monmouth University. She was a standout player, leading the MAAC with 61 blocks in her junior year and setting career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals.
A standout player in her college days
As the Terriers look to build on their 20-12 campaign in 2023-24, Balman’s expertise will be invaluable in helping the team reach new heights. With eight returning letterwinners, including First Team All-Patriot League selection Alex Giannaros, the future looks bright for Boston University women’s basketball.
