New Coaching Talent Hits the Court: Presbyterian College Scores with DeEarnest McLemore
I’ll be the first to admit it - when I heard the news that Presbyterian College had hired DeEarnest McLemore as its new assistant women’s basketball coach, I was thrilled. As a long-time fan of the Blue Hose, I’ve been following the team’s progress for years, and McLemore’s appointment is a clear sign that the college is committed to investing in its coaching talent.
But what really caught my attention was McLemore’s impressive background. A native of Cary, North Carolina, he comes to the Blue Hose after serving as the head women’s basketball coach at Mary Baldwin University. And let me tell you, his credentials are impressive. Under his leadership, the Mary Baldwin team saw some remarkable achievements, including the USA South Rookie of the Year award for Aryauna Brent and a spot on the league’s All-Sportsmanship team for Codie Heilig.

Of course, McLemore’s experience goes far beyond his time at Mary Baldwin. He’s also spent four seasons as the head coach for high school girls’ basketball at Riverside High School in Durham, North Carolina, and Cary High School in North Carolina. And if that weren’t enough, he’s also served as a coach for the CP3 Flames Nike Girls EYBL Team in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Before transitioning to women’s basketball, McLemore coached high school boys’ basketball from 2013 to 2019. He was an assistant coach at Charles E. Jordan High School from 2014 to 2019 and an assistant at Chapel Hill High School during the 2013-2014 season. McLemore began his coaching career at Fayetteville State University in 2010, after he retired from his professional basketball career. As a player, McLemore had a successful career, playing for the Triad ABA in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and having overseas playing experience in Holland and on the USA Select Basketball Tour Team in England.
McLemore was named the 2005 Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year during his time at Wagner College, where he was also a part of the 2002-2003 team that won the Northeast Conference Championship and made it to the NCAA Tournament.
As I looked into McLemore’s background, I couldn’t help but think about the impact he could have on the Blue Hose team. With his experience and knowledge of the game, I have no doubt that he’ll be a valuable asset to the coaching staff.

“I am grateful and very excited to join the Blue Hose family” said Coach McLemore. “I am extremely thankful to Coach Sardin for giving me this opportunity to be a part of her staff. She has had a lot of success everywhere she has been, and I look forward to working with her and continuing to learn and grow as a coach.”
I’m excited to see what the future holds for the Blue Hose team with McLemore on board. With his talent, experience, and passion for the game, I have no doubt that he’ll be a driving force behind the team’s success.
As I watched the Blue Hose take to the court for their first game of the season, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. With McLemore’s guidance, I know that the team is in good hands.
“I am excited to give DeEarnest an opportunity to join our program.” Said coach Sardin. “I believe his knowledge of the game and development of players will be a great asset to our staff. I’ve known him for a long time, and to have observed his growth and work ethic in this business will translate well at this level”
As the season progresses, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the Blue Hose team. With McLemore at the helm, I have no doubt that they’ll be a force to be reckoned with on the court.
