Louisville Men’s Basketball Program Welcomes New Walk-On Commitment

The Louisville men’s basketball program has added a new walk-on commitment to their roster for the 2024-25 season. Patrick Antonelli, a guard who spent four years at the Division II level with Emory & Henry College, has announced his decision to join the Cardinals as a walk-on.

Antonelli is the second walk-on to join the Cardinals’ roster for the upcoming season, following Aidan McCool, who is the team’s lone returner from the Kenny Payne era. Both Antonelli and McCool are graduates of Bishop England High School in Charleston, S.C., and Antonelli is also the son of ESPN basketball analyst Debbi Antonelli.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound guard had a limited role in his final season with Emory & Henry due to injury, averaging 3.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds over 23.5 minutes in four games. However, he has been a starter throughout his collegiate career, averaging 6.5 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in 63 total games and 56 starts.

The addition of Antonelli comes as the Louisville men’s basketball program enters a new era under the leadership of head coach Pat Kelsey. Kelsey was hired on March 28, and since then, the team has been actively rebuilding its roster. All 12 scholarship players from the 2023-24 roster entered the transfer portal after Kenny Payne’s departure, but Kelsey has brought in 12 D1 transfers and one high school prospect for his first season at the helm.

As the Cardinals prepare for the upcoming season, they will be looking to Antonelli to bring his experience and skills to the team. With his ability to score, pass, and rebound, he could be a valuable asset to the team.
