Kentucky Basketball: A Scoring Powerhouse in the Making
As the Kentucky Wildcats gear up for the new season, one thing is clear: scoring won’t be a problem. With a roster rebuilt from scratch by Coach Mark Pope, the team is poised to dominate on the offensive end.
The Wildcats are looking fierce this season
Seven out of nine players transferring in from other colleges averaged double figures for their previous school. If everyone matched their average from last season, Kentucky would score a staggering 106.6 points per game. Of course, that’s not exactly how it works, but you get the idea.
The incoming Wildcats are a who’s who of scoring talent. Ansley Almonor, Jaxson Robinson, Andrew Carr, Amari Williams, Otega Oweh, Koby Brea, Kerr Kriisa, Lamont Butler, and Brandon Garrison all bring their own brand of firepower to the table.
“Every one of these players will be coming into a much different situation than where they were last year and sacrifices must be made with regards to playing time and the number of attempts each person will get.” - Coach Mark Pope
But with great talent comes great responsibility. The team will need to find a way to balance their scoring prowess with teamwork and strategy. After all, as Coach Pope says, “at Kentucky, you can be successful while shooting the 5th most shots on the team, right?”
The Wildcats are ready to take on the competition
With Coach Pope’s analytic-driven modern brand of basketball, this rendition of the Wildcats could very well surpass last season’s dynamic scoring team, which averaged 89 points per game, good for second-best in the nation.
And the best part? Coach Pope still has one more scholarship to fill, if he wants it. The possibilities are endless for this team, and Big Blue Nation has every reason to be excited.
The future is bright for the Wildcats
