Keba Keita throws down a powerful dunk in BYU practice
In a thrilling display of athleticism, BYU basketball center Keba Keita stole the show with a highlight-reel dunk during practice at the Marriott Center Annex on Tuesday. The former Utah Utes big man’s explosive playmaking ability at the rim was on full display, leaving fans and teammates alike in awe.
“He’s going to put so much pressure on the big man, no matter what their coverage is in screen and roll; he’s going to put so much pressure in transition,” said BYU basketball assistant coach Chris Burgess in May. “We’re going to run fast because he is the fastest five-man out there rim-to-rim. Then he’s one of the best offensive rebounders. It’s just so hard to keep him off the glass.”
Keita’s impressive dunk was part of a sneak peek into practice shared by BYU on its official X account. The clip also featured new walk-on transfer Max Triplett from Snow College and recently signed BYU freshman Kanon Catchings on the screen for point guard Dallin Hall. Rutgers grad transfer Mawot Mag was also seen in the corner of the action.

With Keita’s arrival, BYU’s new head coach Kevin Young’s system is expected to benefit greatly from the big man’s rim-running abilities. Last season, Keita averaged 8.3 points and 5.4 rebounds, shooting an impressive 61% from the field for Utah.
As the Cougars gear up for the 2024-25 season, fans can expect to see more of Keita’s high-flying antics on the court. With eight hours of practice per week in the summertime, BYU basketball is shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with in the Big 12 Conference.
