IU Basketball Transfer Portal: Getting to Know Clemson’s Alex Hemenway
As the Indiana University basketball team explores the transfer portal, we’ll be profiling some of the top prospects. Next up is Clemson guard Alex Hemenway, a Newburgh, Indiana native.
A Sharpshooter from the Hoosier State
Hemenway has been with Clemson since the 2019-20 season, averaging 5.3 points and making 25 starts in 95 appearances. The 6-foot-4 guard is known for his impressive three-point shooting, boasting a 42.9% career average from beyond the arc.
Alex Hemenway’s Clemson career
This past season, Hemenway only appeared in five games due to a lower leg injury, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season on March 11. He also dealt with injuries in the 2022-23 and 2019-20 seasons that limited his availability.
A Glimpse into Hemenway’s Career
Hemenway scored in double figures 12 times during his five-year career. One notable stretch saw him score in double figures in three consecutive games, including 15 points in an overtime win over Penn State.
Hemenway’s impressive performance against Penn State
He also had a remarkable run of games from December 11 to 18, 2021, where he shot 12-for-15 from three. Clemson went 4-1 during that stretch.
High School and Recruitment
Hemenway attended Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana, where he averaged 28.2 points on 58% shooting as a senior. He chose Clemson over Nebraska, Creighton, DePaul, and Belmont.
What’s Next for Hemenway?
Hemenway should have one year of eligibility remaining and needs a medical hardship waiver to play out a final collegiate season.
