Iowa Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Jenni Fitzgerald Announces Retirement
After 32 years of dedication to the Iowa women’s basketball team, Special Assistant to the Head Coach Jenni Fitzgerald has announced her retirement. Fitzgerald has spent the last 24 years on Lisa Bluder’s staff, alongside new Hawkeye Women’s head coach Jan Jensen.
Fitzgerald’s legacy will live on in Iowa City
Fitzgerald described the announcement as bittersweet, but expressed her gratitude for the memories she’s made during her time with the Hawkeyes. “It’s been a privilege to be a part of the Hawkeye family for the past 24 years,” Fitzgerald said in a release. “Lisa, Jan, and I had big dreams of filling arenas and hoisting trophies when we first stepped on to campus. Because of the women that came through our program and our Hawkeye community, those dreams became our reality.”

The announcement comes on the heels of Lisa Bluder’s retirement, with Jan Jensen being introduced as the Hawkeyes’ new head coach during a press conference earlier this month.
Fitzgerald and Bluder’s partnership will be remembered for years to come
Fitzgerald’s retirement marks the end of an era for Iowa women’s basketball, but her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Hawkeyes.
