Hoops Hub: The Future of Basketball is Here

The world of basketball is abuzz with excitement as Nintendo Switch Sports announces its latest update, adding basketball to the mix this summer. This free update comes hot on the heels of the Boston Celtics’ NBA Finals victory, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.

Get ready to dunk your way to victory

Nintendo Switch Sports’ implementation of basketball uses motion controls to dribble, pass, and shoot. You can participate in two-on-two matches locally, or compete in Five-Streak Battle matches and Three-Point Contests. You can also take part in a solo Three-Point Challenge, where you need to make as many baskets as you can before time expires.

But that’s not all - BYU’s men’s basketball team has just signed 4-star talent Kanon Catchings, a top 40 recruit in the 2024 class. Catchings, who previously signed with Purdue, reopened his recruitment two weeks ago and has now committed to BYU. The 6-foot-8 small forward recruit was coached at Overtime Elite by one of BYU’s assistant coaches, Tim Fanning.

“We are so excited to welcome Kanon to BYU. He’s a great young man,” said BYU head coach Kevin Young in a press release announcing Catchings’ signing. “Kanon’s a big-time talent who brings great size, shooting, and athleticism to Provo.”

Catchings is rated the No. 40 overall prospect nationally in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings. He comes from a strong basketball family, with his aunt being Naismith Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings, a former WNBA MVP and 10-time All-Star.

Meanwhile, Syracuse men’s basketball is looking to the future, with head coach Adrian Autry targeting top recruits for the class of 2025. Autry has extended offers to four of the top-10 performers at this year’s NBPA Top 100 camp, including five-star forward Chris Cenac and four-star guards Kiyan Anthony and Acaden Lewis.

With the future of basketball looking brighter than ever, one thing is clear - the game is changing, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store.
