Gordon Herbert Takes the Reins at Bayern Munich Basketball
The era of Gordon Herbert has begun at Bayern Munich basketball. The former German national team coach, who led the team to a World Cup title in 2023, has started his new chapter as the head coach of Bayern Munich.

Herbert’s first training session with the team took place on Sunday, and he was greeted by a dozen players eager to get started. Notably absent were the five national team players, including Andreas Obst and new signing Johannes Voigtmann, who are still on vacation after their Olympic bronze medal match against Serbia on August 10.
Herbert’s tenure as the national team coach came to an end after the Olympics, where Germany narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth. He has now taken over from successful coach Pablo Laso at Bayern Munich.
The team’s preseason preparations are underway, with three test matches against Bamberg, Strasbourg, and Würzburg scheduled behind closed doors. Fans will have to wait until the tournaments in Ljubljana and Cyprus to cheer on their team. The new Basketball Bundesliga season is set to begin on September 20 with a home game against Niners Chemnitz.
