Kentucky’s Mark Pope: A Whirlwind Journey from BYU to the Wildcats
Mark Pope, the newly appointed head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team, recently shared his heartfelt gratitude for his time at BYU. In a touching post on X, Pope reflected on his experiences and the transition to his new role.
“One week ago the Pope girls and I came HOME to UK to start the greatest adventure of our lives. It has been a whirlwind of awesomeness—that’s what Kentucky basketball IS! It’s the pinnacle of basketball. And BBN has gone straight next level in redefining southern hospitality! Thank you! We are immersed in the work. We will be relentless. We know the assignment! We will ALL do this together. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. We are home.” - Mark Pope (@CoachMarkPope, April 21, 2024)
During his impressive tenure as BYU’s head coach, Pope achieved a remarkable record of 110-52 and led the Cougars to two NCAA Tournament appearances, solidifying his legacy at the university.
Since Pope’s departure to Kentucky, BYU has selected Kevin Young, the Associate Head Coach of the Phoenix Suns, as their new head coach, signaling a new chapter for the Cougars.
