“I talked a lot about my experiences, but the biggest takeaway was the power of love,” Knight said. “Loving yourself is the easiest way to stay grounded on your journey.”
Knight’s journey is one of self-discovery and perseverance. As a queer woman, she’s faced her share of challenges, but she’s found solace in her faith and the support of her loved ones.

“Coach Mel came into my life with great energy,” Knight said. “I love her so much. She was so consistent, just letting me know that she wanted me.”
As Knight reflects on her two years at Coker, she expresses gratitude for the welcoming environment and the growth she’s witnessed within the campus community.
“Coker’s a really small PWI, and it’s growing,” she said. “We’ve put things into motion to increase engagement and support within the student-athlete community.”

“There’s been moments where we’ve had players who were at low moments in their life, and we were able to come together and be there for that person,” Knight said. “I really appreciate and love my team because we decided to take team bonding to a new level and really try to be with each other.”
Knight’s advice to administrators on supporting the LGBTQ+ community emphasizes the importance of building relationships and being present.
“Take the small step of showing up, creating those initial relationships, going to more games,” she said. “If they want to help things become more inclusive, they have to show up and put themselves out there.”
