Duke Basketball: A New Era Unfolds
As the 2024-25 season approaches, Duke basketball fans are eagerly anticipating the debut of a new-look Blue Devils squad. With a plethora of fresh faces and a revamped roster, the excitement is palpable in Durham.
The Blue Devils are gearing up for a big season
Just a few days after the entire team arrived on campus for summer workouts, the program has already posted highlights from intrasquad scrimmage action in the Blue Devils’ practice facility. The six-minute reel gives fans a glimpse into the team’s preparation for the upcoming season.
With four-plus months to go until the regular season tips off against Maine on November 4, any evidence of hoops in Durham is welcomed by Duke basketball enthusiasts. The 2024-25 Blue Devils, Jon Scheyer’s third squad since taking the reins from Duke basketball legend Mike Krzyzewski, boast the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class, featuring the No. 1 overall incoming college rookie in five-star forward Cooper Flagg.
The highly-touted freshman is already making waves in Durham
In addition to Flagg, the team enjoys a pair of returning guards with starting experience in Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster, along with four transfer additions, including three who figure to earn a spot in the regular rotation. Most national analysts project next season’s Duke team, arguably Scheyer’s most deeply talented bunch as head coach, to begin the season among the top 10 in the AP Top 25 Poll.
As I reflect on my own experiences watching Duke basketball, I’m reminded of the electric atmosphere at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils have always been a team that prides itself on its toughness and resilience, and I have no doubt that this year’s squad will be no exception.
The returning guard is poised for a big season
With a mix of veteran leadership and fresh talent, the Blue Devils are primed for a deep run in the NCAA tournament. As the season approaches, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this team, and I’m excited to see how they come together to make a push for the top.
