USA Basketball has announced that Derrick White has been named to the 2024 USA Men’s National Team, set to compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. This marks White’s first Olympic appearance, following a championship season with the Boston Celtics.
White was selected by USA Basketball Men’s National Team managing director Grant Hill, who praised White’s commitment to the team.
“I am happy to announce that Derrick will compete at his first Olympic Games on the heels of a championship season in Boston,” Hill said. “We look forward to him joining the team in the coming days as we continue preparations for Paris.”
The Olympic rings symbolize the ultimate goal for basketball players around the world.
The 2024 USA Men’s National Team features a star-studded lineup, including Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday, LeBron James, and Jayson Tatum.
White, a seven-year NBA veteran, averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in the 2023-24 season, earning him a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for the second consecutive season.
As a former University of Colorado standout, White becomes the third former Buffalo to play for the USA Men’s National Team at the Summer Olympics, joining Burdette Haldorson and Bob Jeangerard.
The 2024 Men’s Senior National team boasts an impressive combined 11 Olympic appearances and owns 10 Olympic gold medals, as well as three FIBA World Cup titles.
The 2024 Olympic Games are set for July 26-Aug. 11, with the U.S. men opening group play in Lille, France, against Serbia on July 28.
“We look forward to White joining the team in the coming days as we continue preparations for Paris,” Hill said.
“I want to thank Kawhi for his commitment to the USA Men’s National Team. He earned the opportunity to represent the United States, but USA Basketball and Clippers leadership felt it’s important to allow Kawhi to prepare for the NBA season.”
