CSUN Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff Takes Shape for 2024-25 Season
The California State University, Northridge (CSUN) women’s basketball team is gearing up for the 2024-25 season, and head coach Angie Ned has finalized her coaching staff. The new additions include Akilah Martin and Kayla Mokwuah as assistant coaches, and Neil Holmes as director of basketball operations.
CSUN’s new coaching staff is ready to take on the 2024-25 season.
Akilah Martin, a seasoned assistant coach, previously worked at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash. Before that, she spent two years as an assistant coach at Biola University, where the team posted its most wins in a two-year period since joining the PacWest Conference. Martin also has experience coaching at the high school level and has worked with the Cal Sparks AAU program.
As a collegiate player, Martin was a four-year letterwinner with UC Riverside, helping the Highlanders to a 23-win season and a Big West regular season championship. After her playing career, she spent two years as the program’s director of operations.
“I’m thrilled to join the CSUN family and work with Coach Ned and the rest of the staff,” Martin said. “I’m excited to contribute to the team’s success and help the players develop both on and off the court.”
Kayla Mokwuah, a former Division I student-athlete, brings a wealth of experience to the team. She played for George Washington, TCU, and Arizona State, scoring over 800 points in her collegiate career. Off the court, Mokwuah was involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the TCU Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
Last year, Mokwuah coached at the Amherst College Nike Camp, focusing on skill development and sportsmanship. She has also worked with the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership as an educator and mentor.
Mokwuah brings a strong playing and coaching background to the CSUN staff.
Neil Holmes, the new director of basketball operations, has over 20 years of sports business experience, including leading complex teams in sales and entertainment management. He has also worked in government affairs, consulting with elected officials and companies on community development projects.
Holmes has a strong basketball background, having worked with the Los Angeles Sparks as a youth basketball program director and the NBA Development League’s New Mexico Thunderbirds as team president. He has also coached at the high school level, leading the Marlborough School girls basketball team and the Polytechnic School boys basketball team.
Holmes brings a wealth of experience in sports management and coaching to the CSUN staff.
With the coaching staff in place, the CSUN women’s basketball team is poised for a successful 2024-25 season.
