Cowboy Basketball Lands a Big Catch with Patrick Suemnick
As the Oklahoma State Cowboys look to bolster their front court, they’ve landed a major transfer in 6-foot-7 forward Patrick Suemnick, a former NJCAA All-American who has played the past two years for Big 12 rival West Virginia.
Suemnick in action
Suemnick, pronounced SUM-nick, was a versatile and efficient contributor for the Mountaineers in 2023-24, appearing in all 32 games with six starts. He shot an impressive 54% from the field and ranked third among Big 12 regulars in offensive rebounding percentage (13.8%) and seventh in fouls drawn (4.7 per 40 minutes).
“You can never have enough size, experience and versatility,” said head coach Steve Lutz. “Pat brings all of these things to the table, and more. He’s a strong, skilled player and an intense competitor who will do whatever it takes to help his team be successful. Off the court, he’s a great guy from a great family. We’re happy he’s a Cowboy.”
Suemnick’s collegiate career began at Robert Morris before transferring to Triton College in River Grove, Ill. for his sophomore season. He was a first-team NJCAA All-American that year, leading the Trojans to a 30-6 record and the national semifinals. Along the way, he averaged 12 points and six rebounds while shooting 55% from the floor and 42% from long range.
Suemnick’s impressive performance in the NJCAA All-Star Game
Suemnick’s prep year at Bosco Institute in Crown Point, Ind. saw him average 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, earning him the school’s Grady Eifert All-In Award, given annually to a student-athlete who excels on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
As a standout pitcher on the baseball team, Suemnick’s fastball was clocked at an impressive 90 miles per hour. He won a state championship during his senior year at Denmark High School, averaging 19.1 points and 10.2 rebounds on his way to all-state honors.
With Suemnick joining the Cowboys, head coach Steve Lutz’s inaugural recruiting class is shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with. The eight scholarship newcomers, to date, are all upperclassmen, with five of them, including Suemnick, entering their fifth year of eligibility.
The Cowboys are looking strong with Suemnick on board
As the Cowboys gear up for the new season, Suemnick’s addition is a major boost to their front court. With his size, experience, and versatility, he’s sure to make an impact on the court. And with his intense competitiveness and strong work ethic, he’s going to be a fan favorite in no time.
