BYU Basketball Adds Experienced Coach to Roster
The Cougars are gearing up for Year 2 in the Big 12
As a die-hard BYU fan, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the recent recruiting news. And now, there’s even more reason to cheer: the addition of Tim Fanning, a seasoned coach with a wealth of experience, to Kevin Young’s staff.
Fanning’s impressive resume boasts stints in the NBA G-League, Euroleague, and as a head coach at various levels. His unique coaching experiences and strong background in player development make him an invaluable asset to the Cougars.
“I’m excited to welcome Tim to BYU,” Young said in a statement. “He comes with very unique coaching experiences… Tim has traveled the world learning different philosophies and gained a strong network along the way. He’s a very intelligent coach with a strong background in player development. Our entire program will benefit from Tim’s expertise.”
During his three-year tenure with the Overtime Elite developmental league, Fanning coached top prospects like Alex Sarr and Amen Thompson. His five-year stint as an assistant for Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv B.C. saw the team win four league titles, and he even coached former Cougars great Elijah Bryant.
Fanning’s global coaching experience spans New Zealand, Spain, and the NBA G-League, making him a valuable addition to the BYU staff.
Fanning’s diverse coaching background will undoubtedly benefit the Cougars
With the recent hiring of Will Voigt and Fanning, Young still has one final assistant position to fill. As the Cougars gear up for Year 2 in the Big 12, fans like me can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and optimism about the future of BYU basketball.
