Binghamton University Bearcats Women’s Basketball Program Adds Three to Coaching Staff

The Binghamton women’s basketball program is building momentum with the addition of three new coaching staff members: Alison Bouman, Zakiya Saunders, and Lytoya Baker.

The Bearcats are gearing up for the new season.

According to a recent press release, Bouman joins the Bearcats as an Assistant Coach, bringing with her a wealth of experience in the world of basketball. Her most recent stint as the head coach at D’Youville University saw the Saints earn their first-ever berth in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament in 2024.

“I am very excited that Coach Bouman will be a part of my staff here at Binghamton,” said Mary Grimes, head coach of the Bearcats. “She is a worker and knows what it takes to win. The experience she brings as a previous head coach will be a valuable addition to the staff and the program as a whole.”

Saunders, on the other hand, returns to the Bearcats after serving as the Director of Operations during the 2022-23 campaign. Her experience playing for the University of Albany and the University of Central Florida (UCF) makes her a valuable asset to the coaching staff.

“I am truly excited that Zakiya has decided to come back to Binghamton and for the opportunity to work with her,” Grimes said. “Zakiya knows the America East as a player and as a coach. Her understanding of what it takes to win at this level and her familiarity with me as a coach will play a key role in our development as a program.”

Baker, the newest addition to the coaching staff, comes from Le Moyne College, where she had a standout career with the Dolphins. Her experience as a player and her involvement with the intramural program at Le Moyne make her an excellent fit for the Bearcats.

“I am beyond proud and excited that Lytoya has decided to get into coaching and begin her career on my staff here at Binghamton,” Grimes said. “She will bring a great familiarity and experience with my coaching style that will help our young women navigate the nuances of practices and games. Lytoya is a winner and her high level of success on the court will add value as she builds relationships with the players and can speak from a place of great perspective.”

The addition of these three coaching staff members is sure to bring excitement and energy to the Binghamton University Bearcats women’s basketball program.

The coaching staff is looking forward to a successful season.
