The Australian women’s basketball team, led by Tess Madgen, is gearing up for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 12-member squad, announced in Melbourne on Sunday, features a mix of experienced players and newcomers. Lauren Jackson, a four-time Olympic medalist, makes a remarkable comeback to the team after a 12-year hiatus.

The Australian women’s basketball team is ready to take on the world at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Madgen, 33, will be making her second Olympic appearance, while Jackson becomes the only Opals player to feature in five Olympics. The team also includes Cayla George and Marianna Tolo, who will be participating in their third Olympics, and Rebecca Allen, Ezi Magbegor, Alanna Smith, and Steph Talbot, who will be making their second appearances. Kristy Wallace, Sami Whitcomb, Jade Melbourne, and Isobel Borlase will be making their Olympic debuts.

“Lauren’s selection marks an incredible return to the Olympics 12 years after competing in London 2012, the fourth-longest gap between Olympic appearances in Australian history.”

The Opals, currently ranked third in the women’s FIBA rankings, will be the top side in Group B, ahead of Canada, France, and Nigeria. The team has appeared at the Olympic Games nine times previously, winning three silver medals and two bronze. However, their last medal, a bronze, came in 2012.

The Paris 2024 Olympics will feature basketball games at two different venues.
