A New Era in Big 5 Women’s Basketball Begins
The 2024-25 season is set to be an exciting one for Big 5 women’s basketball, with a new format that promises to bring more competition and excitement to the league. The six NCAA Division I women’s basketball programs in the city have been split into two pods of three teams each, with each team playing the others in their pod in a round-robin format at on-campus sites.

The schedule is set, with the first games taking place in November and the Big 5 tripleheader at Villanova’s Finneran Pavilion on Friday, December 6. The tripleheader will feature the first seed in each pod competing for the Big 5 championship, the second-place teams in each pod competing for third place, and the third seeds competing for fifth place.
The Pods
Pod 1 features Drexel, La Salle, and Temple, while Pod 2 features Penn, Saint Joseph’s, and Villanova. The schedule is as follows:

- Wednesday, November 13 - La Salle at Drexel
- Saturday, November 23 - Drexel at Temple
- Sunday, December 1 - Temple at La Salle
Pod 2
- Friday, November 15 - Saint Joseph’s at Penn
- Wednesday, November 20 - Penn at Villanova
- Sunday, December 1 - Villanova at Saint Joseph’s
The Big 5 Women’s Classic
