A New Era for Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball: Umar Shannon Joins Coaching Staff
The Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball team has announced the hiring of Umar Shannon, a former Bobcat, as the newest assistant coach. This move is a significant step forward for the team, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds.

As a former player for the Bobcats, Shannon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the coaching staff. During his time at Quinnipiac, he averaged 14.3 points, 2.3 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game. His impressive skills on the court, combined with his experience as a student-athlete, make him an excellent addition to the coaching staff.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Umar Shannon back to Hamden as a member of our coaching staff,” Head Coach Tom Pecora said. “Umar brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. He has a history of success in the MAAC, and his experience as a student-athlete here at Quinnipiac will be key for us as we continue to compete for league titles.”
Shannon’s impressive resume includes guiding the Peacocks to two NCAA Tournament appearances during his time at Saint Peter’s University. In 2022, the Peacocks won the MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship, and Shannon played a crucial role in their success.

I’m thrilled to see what the future holds for the Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball team with Umar Shannon on board. With his expertise and experience, I have no doubt that the Bobcats will be a force to be reckoned with in the MAAC.
